Dear Warner Parents/Guardians,
At Warner Unified, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. That is why I want
to make you aware that one of our students was overheard making a statement that was either
a joke or a threat. Upon being notified of the student's comments, our staff immediately took
action, and law enforcement is currently investigating. The student does not have access to
firearms.
While we do not believe the threats to be credible, we must take them seriously. I understand
that this can be unsettling for students and parents alike; please understand that we are limited
in terms of what we can share due to privacy and safety concerns. I ask that you please refrain
from conjecture or spreading rumors as this situation unfolds.
We will continue to be vigilant about campus security, and invite you to assist us. I encourage
you to speak with your student about their role in school safety. Let your student know that if
he or she notices any suspicious or threatening behavior, he/she should report it to an
authority figure. It will immediately be investigated, and, if appropriate, reported to law
enforcement. Together, we can keep our students safe so they can focus on learning.
This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to talk with your children about
not making comments that could be understood as school safety threats. Even if they are not
credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and
staff. We ask our families to speak with their children about how serious the consequences can
be for making threatening statements.
Please feel free to contact me at 760-782-3517 if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
David MacLeod
